For a while now I’ve been contemplating starting a travel
blog. But every time I’d try to commit, I would hold back. There’s something
about new beginnings that are both exciting and fearful. New chapters are like
cliff diving (for the cautious) — your body shakes with trepidation as you take
a running start, the adrenaline heightens as you’re suspended in air, but the
second your feet hit the water, an overwhelming excitement takes over, feeding
the urge to dive again.
Choosing a name proved to be the hardest obstacle in
starting. Growing up between New York and Italy, friends have always asked me
for travel advice, from hotel suggestions to restaurant favorites— even
packing pointers. I’ve always believed in word of mouth recommendations. If a
place is truly exceptional, it will be a starting point of conversation amongst
friends, family and even acquaintances. Friend
of Joe’s is a place for me to share my recommendations while honoring the person who gave me my wings to fly, my dad.
