Christmas in Tivoli

Copenhagen is a phenomenal city, home to an extraordinary food scene, innovative Scandinavian design, and awesome street style. The Danes are not only some of the most beautiful people you will meet, but also some of the nicest. Out of all the cities I've had the opportunity to visit, it is by far my favorite.

My roommate and I visited in late October, and the weather was already chilly. So chilly, in fact, that children on a school trip to the zoo were already wearing snowsuits. Our hotel was located near Tivoli Gardens, the second oldest amusement park in the world. Tivoli was a week into its Halloween fest when we visited and it was nothing short of spectacular. Instead of going on rides or watching a show, we spent our time roaming the stalls, stumbling upon Nordic knits, churros, handmade candy, and Christmas decorations. Yes, Christmas decorations... in October. But they were some of the coolest decorations I've seen and this is coming from a native New Yorker. I had to stop myself from buying too many because I would never fit them into my EasyJet carry on. But in all this, I remember wondering if this is how it looks during Halloween, then how will it look when it's transformed into a winter wonderland?

Starting today, Tivoli reopens for its Christmas at Tivoli fest. If you find yourself in Copenhagen now through January 3rd, head to Tivoli, grab a glass of glögg, and marvel at the Danish Christmas traditions at Tivoli.
